Events in the Holy Week

I remember doing my first ever theater tour few years back. I was actually a part of the Student Theater Inc, which does local tours. That was my very first professional play which earns me a good income that time. The play is titled “Jesus Christ, Superstar“. It is actually a musical play which shows the life of Jesus for the Lenten season :daydream: I remembered a good friend R’U Miranda, which I wanted to be my girlfriend before, but I am to coward back then.

Anyway, I just wanted to share here a little summary of the scenario when Holy Week started.

Holy Week is the last week of Lent, when we follow Jesus from Palm Sunday, the Sunday of the Passion, to his death on Good Friday in preparation for his rising from the dead on Easter Sunday.

Palm Sunday Accompanied by his disciples, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a colt, while crowds of people covered the streets ahead of him with their cloaks and with palm branches. This was the time when people praise the coming come Jesus to their town asking for blessings. Show ▼

Holy Monday Jesus went to the temple and saw that it is more of a market place rather than a place to praise GOD. He got so mad, and chased the money-changers out of the Temple. Show ▼

Holy Tuesday and Holy Wednesday After he the event in the temple, Jesus started to preach and teach in Jerusalem. Many people listen to his preaching, while the news came to the head of the churches and planned what to do about it. Show ▼

Maundy Thursday Many knows this night as The Last Supper. There is the washing of the Feet, passover and this is the night when the Holy Eucharist was established. While their dinner, of course they have some talk and Jesus started to explain to his disciples of what’s going to happen. Judas will betray, Peter shall deny. Judas was not able to accept it, so he walked out and you know what happened if you know the story. After dinner, they went to the Garden of Gethsemane.

It’s a fascinating story, so try to know about it. All Jesus say was 100% accurate. So lets continue the story to…

Good Friday As they were in the Garden, Jesus had a deep talk with God the Father. He gives his complains, but yet in the end accepted the facts. Then, Judas came as the the betrayal happened. Which is popularly know as the Judas Kiss. Jesus was taken into Roman courts, before Pontius Pilate and Herod Antipas, who sent him back to the Jewish court. People just betrayed him. Remember Palm Sunday where they all want to be with him? But this time, it’s all different. They want him dead just to see a miracle. Roman soldiers took him to Golgotha, the place of the skull, where he was crucified. Show ▼

Black Saturday Jesus rested in the tomb while his disciples observed the Sabbath. Show ▼

Easter Sunday The big boulder of rock covering the tomb was opened. An angel met Mary Magdalene and “the other Mary” (perhaps Mary, the mother of James and John) at the tomb to tell them that Jesus was risen from the dead. Of course!!! It is a spring festival that celebrates the central event of the Christian faith: the resurrection of Christ three days after his death by crucifixion. Show ▼
