Easter Sunday, is the holiest day of the Christian calendar. This is a celebration for the time Jesus Christ rise from the dead. But what does it have to do with the Easter Bunny, with different colorful eggs?? This post is for researchers, or people wondering why Christ’s resurrection was celebrated with the Easter Bunny with the Egg basket.

Actually, it was the cause of hundreds of generations of ritual and customs.

According to the Gospels of the New Testaments, Jesus Christ and his apostle enter Jerusalem to observe pass over. The Jewish holy season, that celebrates Hebrews release from slavery. After the Passover, Jesus was arrested, and was crucified on the day we now called Good Friday. Two days later, he rose from the dead. I have a short summary of the Holy Week season, during the time Jesus was back in Jerusalem. Jewish origins were the first to celebrate the resurrection, likely as the new facets of the pass over festival. In fact, the Easter celebration was called “PASCHA” which comes from the Jewish word “PESACH”, simply means Pass Over.

Originally, Easter was celebrated two days after pass over. So it can be any day of the week. But Easter Wednesday does not sound right. In 325 A.D. Roman Emperor Constantine and the council of Nicea, ruled that Easter must only fall on Sunday, the day Christ resurrected. It could occur any Sunday between March 22 and April 25.

One of the first recorded modern rituals was “Lighting of Pascal Candle“. The flame was a reminder of Christ’s resurrection, “Light out of Darkness”. Worshipers also place a lamb under the altar to be blessed. Lamb had played the sacrificial role for the pass over, and Christ was known as the Lamb of God.

As the Christianity spread out thru Europe, different Pagan customs blended to the Holidays. Little by little, it was called Easter. In fact, the word Easter may have come from Estre, Goddess of spring and fertility.

First, let us see why there was a bunny in the scene? The fertile rabbit was long known as a symbol of new life according to the European Pagan cultures. Second, why were there colorful eggs? Eggs were a symbol of birth for thousands of years. This symbolization of the Eggs started sometimes in 13th century, which became Easter Eggs. The yolk inside the shell represents Christ emerge inside the tomb. First it was painted red to represent the blood that Christ shed on the cross. Then the tradition of the Easter egg soon became popular.

For 2000 years, many customs had been added, some Spiritual and some for fun.
